Wonder Women Tech Partners with City of Long Beach For 5th Annual National Conference

Sponsors Include Deloitte, Google, Hulu and Microsoft

Wonder Women Tech, the only truly inclusive technology ecosystem, serving every demographic and diverse entity, today announced their partnership with the City of Long Beach for their fifth annual national conference. The 2-day conference from November 7-8, 2019 will take place at the Long Beach Convention Center. The event will be kicked off by Fionnghuala O’Reilly, Miss Universe Ireland 2019 and NASA Datanaut, with a keynote from Ryann Richardson, the 2018 Miss Black America and acclaimed tech visionary.

With the conference now entering its 5th year, Wonder Women Tech is emphasizing the importance of true diversity, inclusion, and creating a culture of belonging. This includes deaf programming, and their first all-deaf panel on the main stage. Wonder Women Tech is committed to make programs accessible by always providing a free career fair, expo, and Mentor Magic sessions.

“Over the past 5 years, we’ve held true to our name and focused solely on women in technology, and have developed programming to address their needs at each annual conference,” said Lisa Mae Brunson, founder of Wonder Women Tech. “Our 2019 conference will address an unmet need for all people in the technology space who don’t feel included in a very dense and expansive industry.”

Wonder Women Tech prides itself on exceptional conference programming and opportunities for personal and professional growth, as well as access to leaders and entrepreneurs. This year’s event will give attendees access to keynote speakers such as Lakecia Gunter, General Manager of Ecosystem Development & Operations for Intel Corporation, Jo Amato-Tuck, Global Partner Development Manager, Microsoft, Robert Garcia, Mayor of the City of Long Beach and Lisa Mae Brunson, Founder of Wonder Women Tech.

Some of the notable conference sessions:

  • “Storytelling Through VR to Combat Unconscious Bias and Create a Culture of Belonging” with Udemy
  • “We Are the Science Fiction of Our Ancestors: Reclaiming Space & Power for Indigenous Futures Through Technology” with A Tribe Called Geek
  • “We Matter Too! The Deaf Women Leaders in STEAM Shattering the Glass Ceiling” with CJ Jones and BBDO
  • “How Immersive Technology Impacts and Shapes Our Future” with IBM
  • “The LatinX Effect: The Tech Visionaries Creating Pathways and Impact” with Femmebots
  • “Lessons from Space: How Women can Expand Their Influence in any Industry” with Lockheed Martin
  • “Refusing to Be Hidden Figures: Black Innovators Who Run the World” with NBC Universal

Wonder Women Tech has also partnered with Long Beach Unified School District to facilitate the travel arrangements for more than 200 middle school students to participate in the conference’s Junior Innovation Camp, hosted by Google and Riot Games. These selected students will be coming to the conference from 4 of the most underrepresented neighborhoods, and are comprised of low-income families, foster homes and homeless youth.

Another highlight of the overall conference is the Smart City Fest that will bring together attendees, Long Beach community members, smart city thought leaders, and industry professionals to discuss the benefits and risks of a “smart” Long Beach. This premier event is produced by the Smart Cities Long Beach team, the Commission for Technology and Innovation for the City of Long Beach, and Wonder Women Tech. Together, we’ll explore the concept of a “smart city,” define what makes Long Beach “smart,” and discuss how to harness innovation, STEAM, data, and technology to guarantee the highest quality of life for Long Beach residents.

“With the many diverse members in the Long Beach community, we are honored to sponsor the 5th national conference for Wonder Women Tech,” said Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia. “The main goal of the organization is to improve the career trajectories of all members through superior conference programming, and our city’s convention center will embrace all attendees including seniors, the deaf and blind.”
