Jamie Kantrowitz is a Partner at Mesa Ventures, an early stage investor based in New York and Los Angeles. Formerly, she was a Partner at Launchpad LA, the leading startup accelerator in Southern California. Last year, she invested in 5 companies based in Los Angeles with female founders: The Noun Project, Parachute Home, Fem Inc. Snow Shoe, and Rex.
She brings to investing diverse experience founding, scaling, and operating both start-ups and large organizations globally, a passion for building communities as well as deep expertise connecting new technologies with massive audiences. Before entering professional investing, Jamie co-founded LA-based Gobbler, a software company building simple but powerful cloud collaboration, organization and backup tools for media creators.
From 2004-2009, Jamie held various senior roles at MySpace where she joined early in the company’s inception and started the Marketing and Content divisions. She was responsible for launching MySpace’s music and social entertainment platform, and then was a leader in the international expansion of the company into 30 countries as SVP, Global Marketing + Entertainment based in London, UK. For her work at MySpace, she was recognized as one of Billboard Magazine’s “30 under 30” list and was honored in Ad Age’s “Top 50 Marketers.”
Jamie initially found her passion for empowering people with new technology products through her experiences in both digital media and politics. In 2004, as the Digital Director at Rock the Vote, she led development of the web’s first web-based and mobile tools to drive over 1.2 million young people to register to vote. She also served as Deputy Finance Director for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo during his 2002 gubernatorial bid. Throughout her career, Kantrowitz has continuously worked on digital product development for such brands as Vodafone, Polo Ralph Lauren, and SonyBMG.
Jamie has served as a Board Director for Soundcloud, the web’s leading audio platform, and remains a passionate advocate for youth issues, serving as an advisor for Invisible Children and I am That Girl. In 2012, she was an advisor to the digital campaign for President Barack Obama.
