Iveris L. Martinez, PhD is Archstone Endowed Chair in Gerontology and Director of the Center for Successful Aging at CSU Long Beach. Dr. Martinez is an applied anthropologist who has served in numerous leadership roles, including President of the Association for Anthropology, Gerontology and the Life Course, Chair of the Division of Medicine &; Society at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, President of the Association of Gerontology, Anthropology, and the Life Course, and Chair of the Board of the Alliance for Aging, Inc., the local area agency on aging overseeing government home and community-based services for seniors in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. She is co-founder of the Long Beach Aging Services Collaborative. Dr. Martinez has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Macarthur Foundation, and others for her research on social and cultural factors influencing health, with an emphasis on reducing health disparities for low-income older adults, Latinos, and other vulnerable populations. Her current interests include improving services for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, as well as interprofessional efforts to create age-friendly communities. She has a joint Ph.D. in Anthropology and Population & Family Health Sciences from the Johns Hopkins University.
