Alessandra Campêlo da Silva is currently one of the 24 State Deputies of the State of Amazonas, in Brazil. She holds a degree in Journalism from the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) and a postgraduate degree in Government Management and
Budgeting from the State University of Amazonas (UEA). She is divorced and is the mother of two children, Sophia (22) and Antonio (17).
She began engaging in politics early in her academic career, getting involved in student politics as a freshman in college. She soon became noticed by the student body for her leadership roles in campaigns fighting for wider, free access to higher education for all, and for lower prices for students in local sporting and cultural events.
She was elected president of the Central Directory of Students (DCE/UFAM), the University’s largest student union. Simultaneously, Alessandra also served as vice president of the National Union of Students (UNE) for the States of Amazonas and
Roraima.
After going through a rigorous exam process, Alessandra served in the Amazonas Police Force. She was also a parliamentary advisor to the National Chamber of Deputies, in Brasilia.
Her expertise in public service is well documented: in 2011, she was appointed by the Governor of Amazonas as Executive Secretary for the State Secretariat of Rural Production. After that, from 2012 to 2014, she held the position of State Secretary for
Youth, Sports and Leisure, being responsible for the inclusion and promotion of youth and sports development in the entire state of Amazonas.
On October 5 th , 2014, Alessandra was elected State Deputy of the State of Amazonas with 25,361 votes, being the 11 th most voted representative in the entire State. On October 7th , 2018, she was re-elected to the Amazonas Legislative Assembly, where
she has been standing out in the defense of women, the elderly, the youth and all underrepresented minorities.
As a member of the state parliament, she has a well-established connection with all branches of civil society, having formed a strong bond with blue-collared workers, public servants, and local, non-governmental education, security, and health entities.
Throughout her two mandates, Alessandra has displayed a heavy hand in the fight against government corruption. She works diligently in the supervision of the executive branch and its management of public resources, fighting daily to ensure that the rights of all citizens are duly protected.
