The quest for the American Dream began when Alena Mohd-Yusof, along with her family, migrated from Malaysia to the United States of America in 1998. Her pursuit for higher education was a top priority. Alena graduated with a Bachelor’s in Biological Psychology and a Master’s in General Experimental Psychology from California State University, San Bernardino. For the last decade, she has been involved with a variety of research topics including pharmacology, neuro-imaging, and behavioral neuroscience. She has published 13 journal articles from three separate institutions: Cal State, San Bernardino, Loma Linda University, and Louisiana State University. Some of the publications include Behavioral Pharmacology, Psychopharmacology, PLoS One, Neurobiology of Disease, Brain Research, and European Journal Pharmacology. During her time spent in academic research, she had received multiple minority grant awards from the National Institute of Health (NIH) as well as recipient for Outstanding Graduate Research Award at CSUSB. Currently, Alena is a credentialed intraoperative neurophysiologist at MPower Health. She works alongside orthopedic and vascular surgeons for the purpose of minimizing incidences of paresthesia, stroke, and paralysis as a post-operative surgical outcome. In addition to her work in surgery, Alena gives back to the community by serving on committees for non-profit organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Los Angeles, P.S. I love you Foundation and PV NET Academy for STEM. She is a member of multiple professional societies including ASET Neurodiagnostic Society, Society for Neuroscience, and Forbes Women Forum. During her free time, Alena enjoys running, kayaking, hiking, yoga, and culinary art.
