What does peace have to do with programming? Brit Hemming is asking and answering questions like these. She believes that one of the major barriers to peace is economic instability and by teaching youth the skills they need to be competitive in today’s job market we are helping to remove that barrier. Hemming is the Founder of Programmers 4 Peace a non-profit that makes programming education accessible worldwide by teaching bootcamps, hackathons, and workshops in some of the world’s most unstable regions. By teaching youth how to program they allowing them to get online and access a global digital economy with competitive skills and removing some of the barriers to economic stability in the process. All of their programs are at least 50% female. Their teaching style is hands on project based learning.
