Mel Lim, CEO and CCO of MLD/Mel Lim Design est. 2003, seeks to understand and innovate the processes of designing brands and the ways they impact businesses and customers, both socially and environmentally. With more than 15 years of international experience in project management, user experience design, and brand development, Mel works with Fortune 100 companies and others in the software and technology space, including Comcast, Varonis, and Axure. Collaborating with clients to redefine and design their brands, Mel recently helped Varonis, a leader in data governance, go IPO in March 2014.
Mel’s work can be seen in London, Tokyo, Copenhagen, and all the way to the UAE. Her projects have won numerous awards, including the Creativity Annual, PRINT, W3, IMA, American Institute of Archi-
tects (AIA) LA, and The Webby, and have been featured in more than 500 magazines and blogs worldwide including New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, C Magazine, Lucky Magazine, Riviera, and Design Management Review.
Committed to sharing her knowledge, insights, and expertise, Mel lectures and offers workshops worldwide. Her engagements have included The Design Research Conference, China Productivity Center – Taiwan & Taichung, RGD Ontario, RE:DESIGN UXD and WebVisions. She has attended the exclusive, invitation only Wired Biz Con and Forbes Women’s Summit in New York, lectured at San Diego State University’s Lavin Entrepreneurship Center, and served on the Global Advisory Council for the World Brand Congress. The World Women Leadership Congress awarded Mel the Women Leadership Achievement Award for her innovative contributions, leadership, and passion for making a difference.
This Malaysian-born design leader received her foundation design diploma from Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design. She then moved across the world to attend Art Center College of Design where she graduated with highest distinction, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Design.
Today, this Malaysian-born design leader is writing a book on crafting meaningful experiences through artisanship, mentoring designers and startups, and is teaching her preschooler and toddler how to draw like a pro.
