Sophie is a software engineer at VMware working in cloud native solutions. Prior to working at VMware, Sophie was a research assistant at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science in the Institute for Software Research. Additionally, she is a Solar Systems Ambassador for NASA’s Jet Propulsion laboratory which allows her to participate in education outreach of STEM subjects and how they pertain to NASA initiatives. She is passionate about computer science education as well as the effect diversity and inclusion programs have on student outcomes. Following this passion, she sits on the City of Austin’s Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee for the school district.

Sophie has presented research at the Research And Design Innovation Offsite (RADIO) conference on how companies can avoid unconscious bias and make technical interviews more inclusive, thus increasing the diversity and overall success of a company. In addition to this, Sophie is on the leadership team for the Anitab.org Austin community chapter and works to build a strong network of women in computing at her company.
