Lieutenant Sams currently serves as an Outreach and Diversity Program Manager at Navy Recruiting Command in Millington, TN. Reporting in 2019, she helped establish the new CNRC, N10 department.

LT Sams is a native of Florida and enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves in April of 2004. She attended basic training at Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes Illinois and then completed Hospital Corpsman “A” School also in Great Lakes. May 2006 she was recalled to active duty under Operation Enduring Freedom at Navy Operational Medicine Institute in Pensacola, Florida. There she aided the Global War on Terrorism through the support training of war fighters and departed in 2008.

In 2009, LT Sams reported to Navy Mobilization Processing Site Norfolk as the Medical Evaluation Case Management Supervisor. She served at NMPS Norfolk until March 2011 which was the end of her enlistment. LT Sams served a total of 8 years of enlisted service activated in the reserves before commission. She earned her commission as a Medical Service Corps Office specializing in Healthcare Administration in February 2013. She began as a Training Officer at NOSC Miami and then volunteered for Recruiting Duty. In March 2015 LT Sams joined NRD Nashville as an Officer Recruiter for the Greater Memphis Area.  

She graduated from Florida State University with her Bachelor’s degree in Human Sciences. She also has a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of West Florida completed in 2011. After a 2012 internship at the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center in Portsmouth Virginia, she earned her second Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of West Florida. In 2018 she earned her Senior Professional in Human Resources certification and completed a Graduate Certification in Project Management.  

LT Sams served as the first Officer in Charge of a Talent Acquisition and Onboarding Center. This flagship detachment of Navy Recruiting Command was established June 2016 by Rear Admiral Jeff Hughes and she began her role as the Officer in Charge of Navy Talent Acquisition Force Mid-South (NTAF MS) at its conception and departed June 2019. 

LT Sams’ personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4), Meritorious Unit Commendation (4), Navy Reserve Meritorious Service Medal (3), Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ “M” Device, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. LT Sams is supported by her husband Kenneth and their two lovely daughters Rachel and Lauren.
