Hannah McCallum

Propulsion Test Engineer | Virgin Galactic

Hannah is originally from Colorado, where she attended a high school that had pre-engineering classes from Project Lead the Way. Those classes helped make her decision to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) starting the fall of 2010 where she to pursued her bachelors of science in Aerospace Engineering and a masters of Mechanical Engineering. Hannah ran track and cross country at WPI, and was captain of the cross country team her senior year. She is a founding member of the Engineering Ambassadors Program, which focuses on STEM outreach, leadership and communications development. Hannah worked for Pratt and Whitney’s compressors and fans group and for the NASA Marshall Spaceflight Center as part of the NASA Propulsion Academy after her sophomore and junior year respectively. In her junior year, she traveled to Denmark for a study abroad working for the Danish Consumer Council on smart grid standardization. Hannah graduated in May, 2014 with both her bachelors and masters degrees and set off to cross the country to work for Virgin Galactic. After graduating –and taking a couple of months to drive across the country to move to Lancaster, California– she started working at the Mojave Air and Space Port as a Propulsion Test Engineer. She helped get the Necker Test Facility ready to begin testing the Newton Three and Newton Four engines, and saw the Newton Three engine through a long duration hot fire. She has since switched groups and is now designing engine components for the LauncherOne rocket in Long Beach. Hannah’s non-working hours are spent training for distance running events, hiking, and doing outreach to spread the word about STEM.
